Exhibition Opening, Winner Announcement of the International Drawing Contest “Mystical Forest Dwellers” and Book Presentation

On April 4, 2025, the Jadvyga Čiurlionytė School of Arts in Varėna will host a special event – the opening of the exhibition and announcement of winners of the international drawing contest “Mystical Forest Dwellers”, alongside the presentation of a book of songs and drawings created by students of the primary art education classes and the school’s folklore ensemble “Avilys.”

This event is part of the international event cycle “Resounding Colours,” dedicated to commemorating two significant anniversaries: the 150th anniversary of M. K. Čiurlionis’ birth and the 60th anniversary of the Jadvyga Čiurlionytė School of Arts in Varėna.

“Resounding Colours” is a biennial tradition of the school, launched in 2007, celebrating the creative legacy of distinguished Lithuanian artists and cultural figures. The cycle includes international and national music and art contests, concerts, exhibitions, festivals, and conferences, inviting the community to engage with art and culture from a fresh, contemporary perspective.

The contest “Mystical Forest Dwellers” brought together young artists aged 7 to 19 from Lithuania and abroad. Participants were invited to draw inspiration from M. K. Čiurlionis’ art and biography, as well as Lithuanian folklore, myths, fairy tales, and legends, to create their own vision of the forest and its hidden life.

During the event, visitors will be able to view the exhibition of selected works, celebrate the announcement of the contest winners, and enjoy the musical performance of the folklore ensemble “Avilys.” The event will also feature the presentation of a unique book of songs and illustrations, created by the school’s youngest students as a creative gift for these anniversaries.
